ACHIEVE Women in Leadership Survey Findings

In preparation for our live virtual ACHIEVE Women in Leadership Conference (September 23-24, 2020), we conducted a survey to gain insight into the experience of women in the workplace. We are so grateful to the more than 700 people who took the time to complete the survey. Their responses helped us gain an understanding of the gaps in gender experiences and expectations when it comes to leadership.

Our findings from the survey demonstrate not only that there is still a gap between leadership expectations for men and women, but also that gender representation in leadership makes a difference when it comes to having a healthy workplace culture.

As we reviewed the data and read the responses, it became clear that workplaces that are committed to equal gender representation tend to have happy, satisfied employees and teams that work well together. In other words, they have healthy workplace cultures. Of those that agreed that their workplaces were committed to equal gender representation, 88% said they had a healthy workplace culture.

We believe that what our survey participants suggest in their responses is true: organizations that are dedicated to equal gender representation will outperform their peers and ultimately have a much greater chance of living out their mission and achieving their vision. Of those that agreed that their workplaces were committed to equal gender representation in leadership, 92% agreed that their organizations were successful. Compare that to only 38% who agreed that their organizations were successful when they felt their organizations were not committed to equal gender representation in leadership.

At ACHIEVE, we also believe that a healthy workplace culture is essential to workplace success. And as our survey has demonstrated, part of having a healthy workplace culture includes an organizational commitment to gender equity.
